Infrastructure
Our nation's
critical infrastructures are electric power systems, telecommunications,
transportation, natural gas and oil, banking & finance, emergency
services and water supply systems. All infrastructures mentioned
above have cyber interdependency, in which a state of one infrastructure
depends heavily on electronic control signals delivered by the
information infrastructure.
Information
infrastructure comprises hundreds of thousands of interconnected
computers, servers, bridges, switches and routers. Realizing that
information infrastructure is the key to the healty functioning
of all critical infrastructures, CIMAP emphasizes on the following:
- Education
The Advanced Research Institute
(ARI) has established a new initiative, Center
for Cyber Assurance and Trust (CyCare), in the college of
Engineering at Northern Virginia Division. The mission of CyCare
is to advance the knowledge and practice of information assurance
through the integration of world-class research, highest quality
education, strategic technology transfer and building partnerships.
- Research
Sample research projects and initiatives
in Information Assurance include: DataScan:
A real-time data mining system for critical infrastructure assurance;
ASSYST:
agile networking of sensor systems; InfraWeb:
an infrastructure web for distributed information sharing and
discovery for critical infrastructure networks
