Critical
Infrastructure: Virginia State Resources
Following is a brief summary of
state-based resources that can be useful in characterizing and assessing
the Commonwealth's basic infrastructures. Additional resources will
be added during the course of the CIMAP program.
Advisory Committee on the Commonwealth's
Critical Infrastructure
The Advisory Committee on the Commonwealth's Critical Infrastructure
was established by the Virginia Joint Commission On Technology And Science
(JCOTS) to analyze the risks and necessary security measures for protecting
the critical infrastructure of the Commonwealth (including government
functions and industry sectors) with the goal of continuing the work
of Virginia's Century Date Change Initiative and of developing an applicable
statutory and policy scheme. These efforts are expected to be augmented
by programs of the Federal Critical Infrastructure Assurance Office
(CIAO). More information about JCOTS can be found at the following web
site: http://jcots.state.va.us
Virginia's Center for Innovative
Technology (CIT)
The Center for Innovative Technology was created by the General Assembly
of Virginia in 1984 as a nonprofit organization designed to enhance
the research and development capability of the state's major research
universities. In its first ten years, CIT implemented the original legislative
intent by "bringing Virginia businesses and institutions of higher
education into relationships that promote a climate of cooperation and
technological innovation." As Virginia faces increased competition
in an era characterized by faster technological innovation, CIT should
provide valuable resources to ensure the joint academic-technological
underpinning for the Commonwealth's continued growth. More information
about the CIT can be found at the following web site: http://www.cit.org
Virginia Economic Development
Partnership (VEDP)
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership is a state authority created
by the Virginia General Assembly in 1995 to encourage, stimulate, and
support the development and expansion of the economy of the Commonwealth.
In order to aid in its primary focus of business development and international
trade, the VEDP has developed a platform for a number of GIS data sets
in-house. These tools offer a mechanism for assessing the viability
of the Commonwealth's basic infrastructure. More information about the
VEDP can be found at the following web site: http://www.yesvirginia.org
